When asked if Blake‘s decision to attend the Met Gala was “a strategic move,” the actress’ attorney Sigrid McCawley told Entertainment Tonight on Thursday (May 7), that Blake is focused “on exposing the digital retaliation campaign here that was weaponized against her.”

Moving on with your life, moving forward, and that’s exactly what Blake is intent on doing,” McCawley added, in part. “She was incredibly brave to stand up for herself in that moment and for others in the workplace and she’s going to continue to pave that path of being really bold and brave in this moment.”

The attorney finished his statement by calling out Blake‘s public stance throughout the case, which has been going on since late 2024.

“If she’s doing this for survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment and retaliation as she says, then why don’t you take the stand at trial and prove it to the world? A trial would have exposed her lies and the entire smear she was talking about in her interviews that she did.”

Blake‘s team has also responded to Bryan‘s latest statement, saying, “I guess he’s no longer ‘ecstatic’ about the settlement.”

In their statement, her lawyers characterize the settlement as a victory for Blake and say the defendants agreed not to appeal certain aspects of the resolution, while also acknowledging her concerns “deserved to be heard.”

They further argue the outcome undermines claims that Blake fabricated allegations of harassment or retaliation.

So, are things officially over? Well, according to the notice of settlement, there’s still something that has not been resolved.

Baldoni‘s lawyer Bryan Freedman released a statement saying that Justin is “feeling pretty good” about the settlement. He also said they were “presented” with the opportunity to settle.

“There was a willingness to get the case resolved, given the opportunity and the position the case was set, and so, you know, when we were presented with an opportunity, we took that opportunity,” he said to NBC News.

He did not specifically say if Blake’s team presented a settlement offer to Justin’s team, keeping it vague.

He gave another interview on Tuesday (May 5), where he again said the “opportunity” came along to settle.

“When an opportunity comes along that is way too good to pass up…” he told TMZ.

After he said this, he was questioned if Blake‘s team approached Justin‘s team with the settlement, and Freedman said in response, “It’s not a question of who the overture was made by. I think that the opportunity existed, and it was an incredible opportunity, and you don’t pass up an incredible opportunity.”

He declared this a “huge victory” for Justin.

“Don’t be distracted by the digital soap opera. The constant packaging of this lawsuit as a ‘Celebrity Drama’ is not only irresponsible, but it is by design: to keep you from seeing yourselves in my story. The physical pain from digital violence is very real,” Blake wrote.

“It is abuse. And it’s everywhere. Not just in the news, but in your communities and schools.”

“If you’re looking, my claims won’t be the first or last time you’ll see examples of the extreme dangers of retaliation and digital warfare. And it often won’t be directed at celebrities or those who may able to speak up,” Blake said.

“It affects us all. Across the political spectrum. Pay attention to all the ways we can be manipulated online. Digital manipulation has been boasted as ‘untraceable.’ If you have kids on phones, they are some of the most vulnerable. Protect them. Have conversations with them. Studies estimate that between 16% and 58% of women have experienced online abuse or stalking, with 97% of gender-based violence service providers reporting technology-facilitated abuse in their cases,” she added.

“So much critical work has already been done to expose systems, tactics and players who harm. The work to create more safety is in part at trial, but it will also will continue far after this trial is over. This is the work I’m most proud of.”

“I couldn’t begin to stand up if not for the countless who’ve gone before me – and the masses who are still around us all – creating laws, social change, sparking conversations, rallying, working privately and publicly, risking and sometimes losing everything for the safety of others in all spaces. Some whose names we know, most we don’t. Thank you. All of you,” Blake wrote.

“I will never stop doing my part in fighting to expose the systems and people who seek to harm, shame, silence and retaliate against victims. I know it’s a privilege to be able to stand up. Justin‘s lawyer Bryan Freedman reacted to the big update, telling TMZ in a statement, “Since the first day of this case, when Justin and the other defendants were blindsided by these allegations, the legal team on the ground from the beginning have worked extremely long days and nights defending this case through transparency by releasing the actual truthful text messages, and by welcoming and facilitating the release of all documents exhibiting the truth.”

He continued, “The defendants were not afraid of the truth. The plan was not only to speak the truth but to also show that same truth over and over again through the presentation of actual evidence. Neither Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath nor any of the other defendants have engaged in the sexual harassment of Blake Lively.”

“Despite our clients being accused of DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) in defending these claims and despite our client being referred to in writing as a predator, what I said, on behalf of our client’s day one and every day since then is true,” Freedman added. “Our clients are very good people who have not engaged in this sexual harassment as alleged. As such, they have deserved a vigorous defense which was led through transparency.”

He concluded, “It is gratifying to see that the courts ruling confirms what the legal team believed from day one.”

The case remains on track for a trial to begin next month on May 18. Both Blake and Justin are expected to testify in court.

Judge Liman ruled that she couldn’t file a harassment claim under California law since filming occurred in New Jersey. But he did rule that two retaliation claims deserved to go forward to a jury, and those stemmed from Blake‘s allegations that Justin hired publicists to retaliate against her by spreading negative stories online.

The three remaining allegations allowed to proceed to trial include breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting in retaliation.

“Sexual harassment isn’t going forward not because the defendants did nothing wrong but because the court determined Blake Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee,” McCawley said.

“This case has always been and will remain focused on the devasting retaliation and the extraordinary steps the defendants took to destroy Blake Lively’s reputation because she stood up for safety on the set and that is the case that is going to trial,” her attorney said in the statement.

It continued, “For Blake Lively, the greatest measure of justice is that the people and the playbook behind these coordinated digital attacks have been exposed and are already being held accountable by other women they’ve targeted. She looks forward to testifying at trial and continuing to shine a light on this vicious form of online retaliation so that it becomes easier to detect and fight.”

The trial is currently set for May 18 after a delayed start.

The 42-year-old actor and director, along with his co-defendants, was awarded a request to push back key pretrial deadlines after claims the 38-year-old actress’ legal team hit them with a “document dump” ahead of their upcoming trial, according to People.

In a letter filed on Wednesday (March 25), the defendants asked Judge Lewis J Liman for a Zoom conference and a one-week extension on deadlines to submit pretrial filings and oppose motions. They have also asked that the final pretrial conference be moved by a week.

According to the letter, the defendants claim Blake‘s team submitted “voluminous disclosures that are not practical for trial purposes,” which included almost 1,000 potential exhibits.

“It is difficult to imagine that even half that number would be put before the jury,” the letter reads.

They have also pointed out that Blake has identified over 40 potential witnesses, which they are calling out as further evidence of “overbreadth.”

Justin‘s team says they need more time to go over the materials and finalize jury instructions, but note they should not have to go through a “document dump… containing voluminous amounts of plainly inadmissible material” while preparing motions on such a tight timeline.

The following day, Blake‘s team filed back on the claim it was a “document dump,” and called the request to push the deadlines “an incremental tactic to delay the trial,” arguing the “Defendants’ own delay should not be rewarded.” They also noted there is “no reason that Defendants cannot do the same” in reviewing the materials.

The judge granted the extension of the deadlines and set an April 2nd date for a status conference.

Earlier this month, Blake and her team pushed back against Justin‘s efforts to dismiss her claims.

Last month, Blake and Justin appeared in court for a private conference in attempt to settle outside of a trial.
