Steven Spielberg calls the movie “closer to fact than fiction”

In an interview with Extra, Steven talked about making another alien movie after big hits with E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

“Well, I think it’s a departure from both E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which could both fall into the fantasy category, or into what I call science speculation with Close Encounters as opposed to just pure sci-fi,” Steven said. “But I got very, very interested in this subject when people who were in the know – people in the Air Force, Navy pilots, people in Congress – when they all started talking about this after the New York Times in 2017 leaked the Tic Tac footage that we’ve all heard about and seen.”

Steven added, “I got really interested in this not as a science fiction film, but as a kind of summation for me as a filmmaker in this genre that includes both of the aforementioned films. And so I took this subject very seriously because it’s something that I think is closer to fact than fiction.”

Disclosure Day hits theaters on June 12.

Apple TV confirmed that a prequel series is joining Legendary’s Monsterverse at the network.

The series, which doesn’t have a name yet, stars Wyatt Russell reprising his role as Colonel Lee Shaw.

Joby Harold will be the showrunner, and will also oversee Legendary’s entire Monsterverse franchise for Apple TV, featuring both new and fan-favorite Titans.

“Starring and executive produced by Russell, the spinoff series will follow the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who, in 1984, went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.”

The latest Monsterverse addition follows Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Season 2 arrives on February 27, 2026.

“Viewers around the world haven’t been able to get enough of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters since its global debut, and we cannot wait to unleash the electrifying new stories that Joby and the entire cast and creative team have been working on,” said the company’s Morgan Wandell.

“With Joby at the helm, and alongside our terrific partners at Legendary, this new spinoff will kick off an epic Monsterverse expansion that brings audiences even closer to their favorite Titans along with fantastic character-driven storytelling.”

“I could not feel more privileged to be a part of building out this wildly iconic universe. Apple and Legendary have been exemplary partners throughout this process, and we will continue to bring these Titans of cinematic history to audiences with the reverence they deserve,” Joby added.

Legendary’s Monsterverse began with 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, and most recently, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is expected in 2027.

Florence and Sebastian were joined onstage by their costars David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine), Lewis Pullman (Sentry) and Geraldine Viswanathan. Director Jake Schreier was also present with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

The group of stars shared some fun details about the movie during the panel.

For starters, it was confirmed that Lewis was playing a character named Bob, which fans believe is a reference to Sentry, also known as Robert Reynolds (via Empire Magazine).

Florence told Variety that she jumped off the world’s second-tallest building while filming a stunt for the movie.

Wyatt wowed that people were going to “f-cking love” his character after his debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (via Variety).

Both David and Sebastian praised Florence, with David calling his Black Widow costar his “favorite” in the cast.

“She is just electric to work with. There’s warmth and humor, but there’s also a lot of pathos,” he gushed.

Meanwhile, Sebastian reflected on his many years playing Bucky Barnes, saying he felt that he had “nine lives” but was never sure how many were left.

Florence told the audience what makes the movie so much fun, saying, “the joy of watching them [this team of former villains] is that they don’t play well together” (via People).

Marvel also shared some footage of Florence and Wyatt fighting, implying that we’ll see some tension between the two.

If you didn’t know, the couple met on the set of Folk Hero & Funny Guy back in 2016 and fell in love. They announced their engagement in 2018 and said “I do” the following year at his parents Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn‘s home in Aspen.

Fellow cast members in attendance included Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle, Gavin Warren, Jodi Long, Eddie Martinez, Elijah J. Roberts, Ellie Araiza, and Nancy Lenehan along with director Bryce McGuire and producer James Blum.

The 37-year-old actor made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in which he played John Walker.

While promoting Monarch: Legacy of Monsters at 92NY on Wednesday (November 29), Wyatt was asked about his role in the upcoming MCU movie.

“I have confidence it’s gonna be good,” he said, per THR. “I know everybody is sort of on this Marvel train right now of things not going so well.”

The star also commented on his relationship with director Jake Schreier.

“I know Jake so well and I know how smart Jake is and how much he cares about making something interesting and different and utilizing everyone’s talents to the best of their ability. And the story that I think they’ve come up with is really interesting — I know parts of the story and how the story works, I can’t talk about it. But it’s not a straightforward Marvel movie as you’ve seen in the past,” he continued. “I think that it’s gonna be a lot of fun but I think it will be something that hopefully Marvel fans will look at and go, ‘Oh OK, this is a little different, let’s go hard at it.’ And as far as how we are approaching it, it’s time to go to work a little bit, it’s time to make a good Marvel movie, so let’s do that and work hard at it and don’t take things for granted.”

The film will follow the anti-heroes of the superhero franchise and Marvel just confirmed seven fan-favorite cast members will reprise their roles in the movie.
