Inde Navarrette opened up about a very “freaky” connection to Obsession that happened before she was even cast in the movie.

“There’s so many things that were kind of…coinciding,” she began to explain of her casting in the hit indie Curry Barker horror movie in an interview with USA Today.

“My tattoos are on the One Wish Willow box, but I had these before I did Obsession, and they did the One Wish Willow box before they met me,” she revealed, pointing out the tattoos on her arms.

“27 is my lucky number. I was in room 327 whenever I got Superman & Lois. Obsession made globally $27 million on the first weekend,” she went on to say.

“There was just so many different things that me and the film…it just felt so right. It’s a little freaky, isn’t it? Freaky Nikki!” she exclaimed, making a reference to her character’s undesired nickname in the movie.

“There was a couple jobs that I had gone out for before Obsession that just hit me in the gut, and then I got Obsession. But had I gotten those other jobs…I wouldn’t have been able to do Obsession.”

Amazon MGM Studios shared the following synopsis.

“We employed hundreds of VFX artists who all killed themselves getting this out for release and not one job was taken out of human hands. The movie is a fully human made piece of joy and laughter. Take it in and enjoy it yall! We need the laughter! Love, Adam,” he concluded.

Acme AI and FX reportedly worked on the film, causing the outrage, but a source familiar with the production told Variety that Acme AI was contracted “exclusively for its visual effects work and any AI use was limited to background workflow processes — and not anything that appeared on screen.”

And I know that that’s going away. I knew that this was the last chance I was ever going to have to do something like this.”

On how he now allocates his time…

“…There’s less of that kind of young person’s engine of needing to prove something and more about, like, accepting work and doing it on your terms and doing it as precisely and as well as you can.”

“I think about it a lot, especially as my kids are getting older: really trying to be here now. And it’s hard for me to do that. And I think maybe that has to do with my own nature. The 30-year-old Pretty Little Liars star has signed on to lead Rosemary, a new psychological thriller centered on the life of Rosemary Kennedy, according to Deadline.

The upcoming film will recount Rosemary Kennedy‘s tragic story “from her perspective” and aims to offer a more personal look at one of the most talked-about figures in the Kennedy family.

Rosemary will be written and directed by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert. The project is based on the All That’s Interesting article “Rosemary Kennedy, JFK’s Sister Who Was Lobotomized and Locked Away.”

According to the outlet, the thriller will “dramatize Rosemary Kennedy’s struggle with mental health, the devastating decision by her father, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., to subject her to a lobotomy at age 23, and the long–lasting consequences of that choice.”

Rosemary Kennedy was the sister of President John F. Kennedy and senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy. As a child and young adult, Rosemary experienced developmental challenges and later struggled with behavioral issues.

At age 23, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. arranged for Rosemary to undergo a lobotomy, a procedure that left her permanently incapacitated. Rosemary spent much of her life isolated from family and friends at a Wisconsin institution. She died of natural causes in 2005 at the age of 86.

Sasha shared why the project resonated with her in a statement.

“Rosemary’s story has been told in fragments. What drew me to this project is how it explores her as a person, not a symbol, but a fully realized human being with dreams and vulnerabilities.”

Zoe will take on the leading role in the new project, which can only be described as a mystery, as additional plot details and the logline are under wraps.

Megan is directing, writing and producing the upcoming movie, with Apple Studios and LuckyChap producing in association with Film Nation. Margot Robbie‘s husband Tom Ackerley and Bronte Payne will oversee the project for LuckyChap.

If you didn’t know, Megan previously worked with LuckyChap on My Old Ass, which starred Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella. She earned WGA and DGA nominations for the project.

Megan also wrote and directed the movie The Fallout, starring Jenna Ortega and Maddie Ziegler.

Also coming out, Megan created the upcoming drama series Sterling Point, which she also serves as co-showrunner, director and executive producer on. It is slated to premiere on Prime Video later this year.

Zoe was last seen on screen in Caught Stealing, alongside Austin Butler. Coming up, she’s set to return for Big Little Lies season three, and in the upcoming movie How to Rob a Bank with Nicholas Hoult, hitting theaters in September.

If you didn’t know, Lex Luthor first obtained the alien battle suit on his home planet, Lexor, while he was living there briefly before it’s destruction. The suit gives him superhuman strength and durability, and it allows him to fly, have a force field and energy projection.

In Man of Tomorrow, Superman and Lex Luthor are set to team up as they against a new villain – Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. Filming is currently underway in Atlanta.

It’s hitting theaters and IMAX in North America on August 14, and internationally beginning on August 12.

“A few years ago, I was walking through our neighborhood in Michigan, just walking down the street, and I was passing by this garage [with a] chain link fence and garbage cans,” the director told Entertainment Weekly of the inspiration.

“And I was struck by the image of, like, ‘It’d be really interesting if there was a dinosaur right there.'”

“Just like anybody, the first Jurassic Park movie, I absolutely love. But for me, my language of dinosaur movies goes back much further. I’d be lying if I say that that isn’t a movie that I absolutely love because I do. But I wanted to do something different,” he added of comparisons to other dino-themed films.

It’s now the first movie since 1982’s E.T. The Extraterrestrial to have second and third weekend increases outside of the holiday season according to Focus Features, via Variety.

The movie has now made over $106 million domestically and $148 million worldwide, and was made with a $1 million production budget.

It also broke the record for highest-grossing movie of all time for Focus Features, beating 2019’s Downton Abbey haul of $96.8 million in North America.

After just one day, the movie shattered film studio A24’s record for biggest opening weekend, which was previously held by 2024’s Civil War with $25.5 million.

Backrooms was made for a reported $10 million. It earned $118 million globally so far, per Variety.

The movie centers around a failed architect (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who stumbles across an endless series of rooms in the furniture store he manages.

Renate Reinsve also stars, alongside Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell. The movie is based on Kane‘s viral Backrooms series on YouTube, which gained massive attention online for its unsettling liminal space horror concept.

Distributor Vertical Entertainment released the official synopsis for the movie:

A nightclub owner (Russell Crowe) is on the verge of leaving his dangerous past behind for retirement with his girlfriend (Teresa Palmer). When masked gunmen (Nina Dobrev, Aaron Paul) rob him and he finds himself squeezed by ruthless cartels, a mysterious newcomer (Luke Evans) arrives with an interest in buying the business. With danger closing in from all sides, he must navigate a deadly web of deception, power, and survival  –  where escape may no longer be an option.

In addition to directing the project, Derrick Borte co-wrote the screenplay alongside Daniel Forte. The film is based on the novel Strip by Thomas Perry.

The news was announced by Warner Bros Motion Picture Co-Chair Michael De Luca during a conference on Saturday (May 30), according to Deadline.

Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge are all returning for the sequel with Kirsten Dunst and Matt Berry joining the cast.

Back in August 2025, Kirsten voiced publicly that she wanted to be in the sequel and then her dream came true later on. At the time, she told Town & Country that her kids loved the first film and, “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?”

Jared Hess is returning as director for the sequel. He’s also the director of the beloved comedy Napoleon Dynamite.

Hannah actually has been friends with Cynthia Erivo for more than a decade as they worked together on a musical in London’s West End in 2015. They talked about the role during the casting process, but Michelle had already earned the role.

“I was like, ‘I think it’s gone.’ She was like, ‘Dude, I think it’s gone as well,'” Hannah said. “I would have loved to have been seen for that, but it was a fait accompli, as they say.”

Hannah says she still wants to do a movie musical and she has one in mind, but won’t reveal it. “There is, but I’m keeping it under my hat because I want to do it. Goddamn it!” she said.

Newcomer Mae Schenk was spotted filming scenes outside the iconic Plaza Hotel in Manhattan on Friday (May 29), dressed in a red ensemble.

For the shoot, Mae wore a red wool military-style coat paired with a matching bellhop cap and classic Mary Jane shoes. The young actress looked remarkably similar to the mischievous children’s book character as she smiled between takes and stood on the hotel’s famous red-carpeted entrance.

The Plaza Hotel has long been synonymous with Eloise, who famously lives at the landmark New York City property in the beloved book series.

The upcoming film is being directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the acclaimed creator of Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Amy also co-wrote the screenplay.

Ryan Reynolds will play the film’s villain

Ryan Reynolds is attached to the project as both a producer and the film’s villain.

The cast also includes Sally Hawkins, Victor Garber, David Haig, and Max Casella.

Plot details remain under wraps, but Netflix executive Hannah Minghella previously shared her excitement about bringing the iconic character back to audiences.

According to a source with People this week, the 56-year-old entertainer “had a great time filming” the upcoming Netflix rom-com Office Romance and is “excited for people to see the movie.”

Jennifer and Brett have recently been spotted together at several appearances and promotional events as they gear up for the film’s release.

She previously told People that she and Brett “had great chemistry to begin with” and even named him her “No. 1” rom-com co-star.

“Her flirty energy with Brett is genuine. She really likes him,” the source said.

The 33-year-old actor and singer attended a tastemaker screening of the film at the Linwood Dunn Theater on Thursday (May 28) in Los Angeles.

Nick was joined at the event by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Justin Tranter, a longtime collaborator who has worked with the Jonas Brothers star on multiple projects over the years.

For the screening, Nick opted for a casual, streetwear-inspired look that appeared to include Polo Ralph Lauren‘s Burgundy Corduroy Bomber Jacket, paired with a button-down shirt, dark-wash jeans, and leather boots.

Earlier this week, Nick‘s co-star Paul Rudd admitted to People that he felt nervous about singing alongside the musician in the movie.

“I’d sung in movies before, but it was always silly — you get a lot of leeway. This was real, actual singing. I was doing it with you and [writer-director-producer] John Carney, who’s a musician himself. This job is always nerve-wracking. Acting, singing — you’re putting yourself out there, so you close your eyes and jump in the deep end.”

In the film, Paul plays Rick, a past-his-prime wedding singer who performs at a wedding attended by Nick‘s character, Danny, a former boy band member.

The two characters form an unlikely bond, but things take a dramatic turn when Danny steals one of Rick’s songs. The track becomes a massive hit, reviving Danny’s career and setting Rick on a path of revenge.

A24‘s highly anticipated movie is hitting theaters nationwide starting today (Friday, May 29).

Directed by Kane Parsons, the film is set to be a big-screen adaptation of the eerie viral horror phenomenon.

The film follows a chilling premise: a strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom, leading into a disorienting and seemingly endless maze of rooms.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve lead the cast, alongside Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell.

The movie is based on Kane Parsons‘ viral Backrooms series on YouTube, which gained massive attention online for its unsettling liminal space horror concept.

But what do critics and audiences have to say so far?

Backrooms currently has an 88% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 72% audience score.

Polygon gave it a 100, saying: “Backrooms is deeply unnerving. Better yet, it’s haunting, leaving behind lingering shivers and ongoing anxieties. It’s smart, ‘elevated’ horror for the tired-of-slashers crowd, but it has plenty of slasher shocks as well.”

Bloody Disgusting gave it 3.5 out of 5, writing: “While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”

The LA Times says: “Describing Backrooms as a horror film doesn’t feel exactly right. It’s a surrealist painting in motion, the equivalent of staring at Salvador Dali’s wasteland of melting clocks until it makes gut-sense.”

The New York Times says: “Ambiguity is key to this style of horror, where space and atmosphere do most of the heavy lifting, and though the story isn’t over-explained, mind you, it’s filled out enough to break its own uncanny spell.”

The London Evening Standard gives it 4 out of 5 and says: “Ejiofor is absolutely brilliant, but it’s a shame that Reinsve (so good in Sentimental Value and The Worst Person in the World) seems a touch miscast. Pretty much any B-list US horror star could have slotted into her role.”

TheWrap says: “If this movie was nothing but a sightseeing tour of disquieting office buildings Parsons probably could have gotten away with it. But the more Backrooms tries to have a point, the more pointless it feels.”

Irish Times gave it a 4.5 out of 5, writing: “[Backrooms] succeeds where other creepypasta adaptations (take a bow, Slender Man) have dismally failed and requires no prior knowledge of its storied history.”

The Daily Telegraph gave it 5 out of 5, writing: “Backrooms could have taken any number of sabotaging turns, or undercut itself with effects (excess gore, say) that aren’t needed. Instead it builds with clear logic, solid acting, and doesn’t skimp on being suggestive.”

The Australian gave it 4 out of 5, writing: “It feels like cinema’s future. Leaner, tighter filmmaking, saturated in web-lore rather than cinema-lore. The revolution has begun and Backrooms, together with Obsession, are at the vanguard.”

Inverse writes: “Parsons undoubtedly has an eye: His placement of the horizon in a series of striking establishing shots proves all by itself that he has talent as a director.”

Backrooms actor Mark Duplass is now coming to his defense.

Mark tweeted in response to a false claim, “Hmmm, with all due respect I don’t remember seeing you on set. When I was there, Kane was 100% in control. More so than many directors 3x his age.”

Mark also went on Instagram to release a lengthier response.

“A lot of takes going around right now about whether Kane Parsons, at the tender age of 19, actually directed Backrooms or whether it was more ghost directed by one of his more experienced producers. I was there,” Mark said. “I suspect one of the reasons I was hired was because I mentor a lot of young filmmakers, and they may have thought it was good to have someone there who’s sensitive to that, and I was prepared to help out. And what happened was he didn’t need any of us. He was intensely prepared.”

Mark added, “He spent the last five years of his life building out one of the most detailed mythologies I’ve ever been a part of. Worked incredibly closely with his crew, particularly his DP and shot design, and was very sensitive and calm and smart in dealing with actors. So, for those of you who have all these thoughts, were you there?”

A24’s take on the film has a simple logline that sets up the gateway into the terrifying world of Backrooms.

Unfortunately, those interested in seeing the new movie will have to head out and see it in theaters, but it is a nationwide release and should be playing at a cinema near you. Check for tickets here!
